The authors highlight three problems of the age of information technologies and proposes the strategy for their resolution in relation to the computer-aided design of civil engineering structures.
The authors express their concerns in respect of globalization of software programmes designated for the analysis of civil engineering structures and employed outside of Russia. The problem of the poor quality of the input data has reached Russia. Lately, the rate of accidents of buildings and structures has been growing not only in Russia. Control over efficiency of design projects is hardly performed. This attitude should be changed. Development and introduction of CAD along with the application the efficient methods of projection of behaviour of building structures are in demand. Computer-aided calculations have the function of a logical nucleus, and they need proper control. The system approach to computer-aided calculations and technologies designated for the projection of accidents is formulated by the authors.
Two tasks of the system approach and fundamentals of the strategy for its implementation are formulated. The study of cases of negative results of computer-aided design of engineering structures was performed and multi-component design patterns were developed. Conclusions concerning the results of researches aimed at regular and wide-scale implementation of the strategy fundamentals are formulated.
Organizational and innovative actions concerning the projected behaviour of civil engineering structures proposed in the strategy are to facilitate:
safety and reliability improvement of buildings and structures;
saving of building materials and resources;
improvement of labour efficiency of designers;
modernization and improvement of accuracy of projected behaviour of buildings and building standards;
closer ties between civil and building engineering researchers and construction companies;
development of competitive environment to boost competition in the market of structural design companies and in the market of developers.

Thermal insulation of facades provides: improving the comfort of residents, reducing energy consumption for heating the building, reducing CO2 emissions by 5 times, reduction of energy intensity of gross product, increasing the durability of building envelopes. The article observes the results of the conference Facades of Russia+ 2015. The prospects for the facades’ market in all of its major business segments: translucent facades, ventilated facades and plaster facades with insulation, fire fronts were discussed at the second congress of the faсade’s market Facades of Russia+ 2015. The speakers focused on the analysis of the faсade market, faсade technologies, fire protection of faсade systems, hinged ventilated facades, faсade heat-insulating composition faсade systems, curtain walls. The congress, organized by the Congress Bureau ODF Events, was attended by the leading experts of the faсade’s market from branch institutes, higher educational institutions, supervisory bodies, heads of factories of facade materials and installation companies. The results of the market investigation justify the irretionality of the forecasts on faсade market decline and critical condition of the branch.

The authors provide solutions to the relevant issue of development and construction of
foundations resting on a sliding layer as a method of external seismic protection of buildings and
structures. The authors have developed a system of automated operating control over the external
seismic protection of buildings (structures) that represents an automatic switch of the emergencylevel
seismic load. The authors have filed an application for the registration of their invention. The
proposed solution has everything in place to be widely applied to improve the seismic protection of
buildings and structures, especially those resting on problematic soils.
The authors provide their description of a paradox of foundations: foundations are analyzed
in terms of "upside-down" loads, whereas seismic loads have an opposite direction. The authors
provide their solutions to this problem.
The authors argue that methods of seismic protection incorporated into effective regulations
are limited, and they do not constitute any external seismic protection methods, whereas the
application of seismic isolation inside buildings is unreasonable, as it is limited by the requirement
to install it "above the foundation". Presently, the above methods are being reworked into foundation
platforms resting on a sliding layer. Their efficiency has been proven by a computerized model and
a theoretical analysis.
The authors also provide their argumentation in favour of the conclusion that relevant seismic
protection development trends are to incorporate advanced structural solutions, including methods
of external seismic protection.
