Obtained building material based on magnesia binder with different content of peat (0 to 90 %), on a specially developed technique. As a binder used PMK 87, for mixing mixtures used aqueous solution of magnesium chloride and peat from the Ivanovo region. It were determined such physical and physico-mechanical properties of the investigated material as the compressive strength and the density. The strength characteristics of silicate bricks, ceramic bricks and the investigated material based on magnesia binder and peat was analyzed and compared. It is established that the samples of construction material with content of peat not exceeding 40 wt.% can be attributed to the materials of structural purpose by its compressive strength. Samples of the material with content of the peat 40% have a density 943,75 kg/m3, that provides good heat and sound insulation properties. It is revealed that the solution of the raw material mixture of magnesia binder, peat, the solution of bischofite is optimized to place, and the material gets at least 85% of its strength during 30 days.

Wetlands, considered as the territories unfit for agriculture and building, in the recent past served as the places for the industrial and municipal waste accommodation. That’s why the problems, connected with the studies of pollution and recovery duration of bogs, are rather current nowadays. The aim of this research is studying carrying out of pollutants from the polluted marsh massif. The object of the research is the Konnick bog, where the discharge of waste water from the hydrolysis plant and dumping of ash and sawmilling waste started in the fifties. The emission of waste water from the city’s treatment facilities also took place there. The Konnick bog is situated in the Arkhangelsk region. The network of stations for the ground and surface water monitoring was organized on the territory of the bog in 2004. The monitoring showed that the ground water composition has the excess of ammonium salt, phosphates, petroleum products, lignin substances, phenols, etc. Since 2004 there is a gradual decrease in concentration of the majority of pollutant, which is connected with the end of dumping of waste and discharge of waste water from the hydrolysis. In our opinion the decrease in the polluting substances concentration in marsh waters (self-cleaning) happens due to dilution of ground waters. The process of the pollutants removal from the peat was investigated with the help of a specially constructed device. The researches offered an equation, which describes the relation between the relative concentration of pollutants and the ground water flow. The analysis of the results of the peat ablution showed that in order to reduce the concentration of most pollutants the water should be filtered through the peat (at least 1 liter per 1 gram of dry peat). Using the received equation the settlement curves of pollutant concentration reduction in a bog were obtained. The curves obtained according to laboratory researches correlate rather well with the data obtained during the monitoring.

The article deals with research results of the sealing of pores in drainage filters by organic particles. Permeability tests were carried out with the constant gradient 1.5. The water flow through the sample of soil was top-down.The tests were carried out with 2 types of samples: the first part of samples had layers (from up to down) 300 mm peat and 2 layers of geotextile, the second part consisted of 250 mm peat, 200 mm fine sand and 2 layers of geotextile. Well decomposed peatsamples were used. Peat had the following characteristics: density is 1,05...1,06 g/cm3, specific density — 1,53...1,56 g/cm3, void ratio — 12,0...12,5. The duration of each test was 15 days. During testing the hydraulic conductivity of samples was decreased by 1.3...1.9.After completing the tests the hydraulic conductivity of sand and geotextile were measured. The content of organic matter in geotextile and fine sand was determined as well. Dry mass of organic matter in the first layer of geotextile in the first type of samples were 1,0…1,3 g per 75 cm2. The organic matter in the second layer of geotextile in the first type of samples and in the first layer of geotextile in the second type wasn’t exposed. Fine sands protected the drainage geotextile as a result of sealing of pore space of sands by organic matter.

It is suggested that kimberlite tailings from the diamond deposit named M.V. Lomonosov should be used for producing the artificial topsoils. The laboratory experiments indicated that the optimal composition for growing the grass is next: kimberlite tailings 80 %, peat 10 %, dehydrated sludge 10 %. This substance is useful as cover layer on municipal and industrial landfills, quarries etc.
The research was done within federal program "Academic and teaching staff of innovative Russia" according to the state contract № 16.740.11.0436 dated 3 October 2010.
