The authors discuss interaction between the river flow and the formation of the river bed as a
single dynamic self-regulating system. Changes in the physical-mechanical properties of river bed
sediments occurring under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors, and the impact of
these changes produced on the processes of sedimentation and erosion of river channels are considered
in the article. Free and constrained precipitation of particles of different density, shape and
size are analyzed. A universal formula of the hydraulic resistance coefficient, applicable to particles
in the course of their sedimentation into the liquid, which takes account of both the front resistance
and the surface friction, is proposed. The authors also propose a formula that takes account of the
effect of concentration produced onto the rate of deposition. The experimental data reflecting the
impact of fine sediment on the viscosity and initial shear strength of the water and soil mixture are
considered. The results make it possible to improve the accuracy of calculations of channel processes
for the purpose of design of hydraulic structures, regulation of waterways and monitoring of
water bodies.

Effective parameters on feasibility of sediment flushing through reservoirs include hydrological, hydraulic, and topographic properties of the reservoirs. In this study, the performances of the Decision tree forest (DTF) and Group method of data handling (GMDH) for assessing feasibility of flushing sediment from reservoirs, were investigated. In this way, Decision tree Forest, that combines multiple Decision tree, used to evaluate the relative importance of factors affecting flushing sediment. At the second step, GMDH deployed to predict the feasibility of flushing sediment from reservoirs. Results indicate that these models, as an efficient novel approach with an acceptable range of error, can be used successfully for assessing feasibility of flushing sediment from reservoirs.

The existing regulatory documents on estimation of wave scours behind vertical-type structures take account of only frontal wave arrival. Though in most cases of real structures waves arrive at an angle to a structure. The kinematics of the formed wave field and as a result the interaction with the structure and the foundation soil differ from that of frontal waves. The work is devoted to investigation of local scour due to the influence of oblique waves. The main aim of the article is to define the features of the formation of the local scour due to oblique waves in front of breakwater and to define its difference from local scour caused by frontal waves. In order to study a local scour experiments have been conducted in a wave basin. As a result of the experiments the shape and depth of the scour were obtained. Significant differences of scour formation caused by frontal and oblique waves at the breakwater were found out. The scoured hole caused by oblique waves looks like a line directed along the walls, in contrast to the scour caused by the influence of the standing waves. It was found out that in case of smaller angle of wave arrival to the breakwater the depth and width of scoured hole increase. The experimental investigations also showed that the size of soil particles influence the formation of scour hole.
